Russia, India to jointly develop 5th-generation fighter


MOSCOW, October 15 (RIA Novosti) - Russia and India are set to jointly develop helicopters, infantry fighting vehicles and a fifth-generation fighter, a Russian Defense Ministry spokesman said on Thursday.
Following a meeting of the Russian-Indian intergovernmental commission on
military cooperation, Indian Defense Minister A. K. Antony said the two countries will sign a military cooperation agreement for 2011-2020 during the Indian prime minister's visit to Moscow in December.
The current cooperation program until 2010 comprises about 200 joint projects, including the modernization of the Vikramaditya aircraft carrier (formerly the Admiral Gorshkov) for the Indian navy, the transfer of technology for the licensed assembly of T-90 tanks in India, the production of BrahMos missiles and the purchase of Smerch MLRS by India.
The participants in the meeting also expressed their interest in modernizing MiG-27 Flogger ground support aircraft, Su-30MKI fighter jets, T-72M1 and
T-90S tanks and BMP-2 infantry fighting vehicles currently in service with the Indian Armed Forces.

Russia to deliver last of six Su fighters to Indonesia in 2010


MOSCOW, November 13 (RIA Novosti) - Russia will deliver the last of six contracted Su fighter jets to Indonesia in 2010, a Russian Federal Service for Military and Technical Co-Operation deputy director said on Friday.
Under a $300 million contract, signed in 2007, Russia is to supply three Su-30MK2 and three Su-27SKM fighters to Jakarta.
"Under the contract, two Su-27SK jets must be delivered by the end of 2009. One more fighter will be delivered in 2010," Konstantin Birulin said.
The third Su-30MK2 jet was delivered in January.
Indonesian Armed Forces Commander Air Marshal Djoko Suyanto said in 2007 that the country needed at least one squadron equipped with 16 Sukhoi fighters to replace part of the outdated fleet of U.S. F-16 fighters.

Russia Air Force admits problems in 5th-generation jet engines


ZHUKOVSKY, August 20 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's Air Force chief acknowledged on Thursday faults in engines for a fifth-generation fighter jet currently being developed.
The Advanced Front-Line Aviation Complex (PAK FA) plane is set to replace the Air Force's fourth-generation fighters, namely, the Su-27 Flanker and the MiG-29 Fulcrum.
Speaking at the MAKS air show outside Moscow, Alexander Zelin said: "For the time being the aircraft will use Saturn engines. There are problems, I admit, but research is continuing."
